    Anxiety disorders are common psychiatric disorders. Many patients with anxiety disorders experience physical symptoms related to anxiety and subsequently visit their primary care providers. Despite the high prevalence rates of these anxiety disorders, they often are underrecognized and undertreated clinical problems

    The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition (DSM-5)[1] restructured the anxiety disorders into 3 groups:

    Anxiety disorder
    • Panic disorder
    • Generalized anxiety disorder
    • Social anxiety disorder
    • Agoraphobia
    • Specific phobia
    • Separation anxiety disorder
    • Selective mutism
    • Substance/medication induced anxiety disorder
    • Anxiety disorder due to another medical condition
    • Obsessive-compulsive and other related disorders



    Obsessive-compulsive disorder
    • Body dysmorphic disorder
    • Hoarding disorder
    • Trichotillomania (hair-pulling disorder)
    • Excoriation (skin-picking disorder)
    • Substance/medication induced obsessive compulsive and related disorders



    Trauma- and stressor-related disorders
    • Posttraumatic stress disorder
    • Acute stress disorder
    • Adjustment disorder
    • Reactive attachment disorder
    • Disinhibited social engagement disorder
