We've seen two recent posts on each of these substances, which brings up the question, (aside from concerns about using a sleep aid during pregnancy) which is better for you?

Are they equally effective? Is the onset of action the same or different? Are there any side effects with one of the other?

Should either be considered to help with sleep, or should we go to the doctor and ask about being prescribed a sleep aid?

What has been your experience with either or both..valerian or melatonin? If you also have experience with a prescribed sleep aid, and tried one of these, what, if anything was different, better or worse?
