    Cold turkey

I am currently taking .5 mg of clonazepam 1 pill before bed for RLS. I didn't take it last night, and will probably not take it tonight either. Will I have withdrawal symptoms, and if so, what and when can I expect them?

Since clonazepam can help with anxiety and insomnia as well, it is possible to have more anxiety or more difficulty sleeping. I never experienced withdrawal symptoms per se, but they are certainly possible, especially if one has taken it for years.

The usual recommendation is to taper off to avoid such symptoms.

Instead of stopping cold turkey, break the pills in half and take .25 mg for a few days to a week. Then take .25 every second day for a while, then every third day, etc.

After that you should be able to stop taking it without severe withdrawal effects.

Bear in mind that clonazepam has a half-life of about 30 to 40 hours, meaning that after that time the level of clonazepam in your bloodstream has dropped to about 50%. Because of this, you may not experience a lot of withdrawal effects for a few days after stopping abruptly.

I don’t really have a choice, my neurologist that prescribed them wrote me off.

That seems odd. How long had you been taking clonazepam?

Oh okay. That's not a really long time. You may be okay.
