    PTSD after child abduction?

I was wondering, could having a child taken by the other parent (unplanned) and not knowing if she was alive for two days and then not seeing her again for almost a week be a cause for PTSD?

Re: Diagnostic criteria for Posttraumatic Stress Disorder

That would sure do it for me, Janet! I can't imagine anything that would be more difficult to bear; nor, can I imagine anything more cruel than to use a child in that manner.

Re: Diagnostic criteria for Posttraumatic Stress Disorder

Janet I would definitely think that the taking of a child from a parent (unknowingly) could definitely cause PTSD. The criteria that Dr. B. said above that struck me about this is as follows:

    A. The person has been exposed to a traumatic event in which both of the following were present:

    (1) the person experienced, witnessed, or was confronted with an event or events that involved actual or threatened death or serious injury, or a threat to the physical integrity of self or others
    (2) the person's response involved intense fear, helplessness, or horror.
