SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Microsoft Corp. on Wednesday unveiled a new version of its Encarta encyclopedia software with such features as a search bar and online math homework help.

Encarta Reference Library Premium 2005 includes a search bar that appears in the Windows task pane, even when Encarta is closed, giving students access to the Encarta database regardless of where they are on the Web. The new tool reflects Microsoft's new emphasis on Web search technology.

The new offering also includes new content that is tailored specifically for elementary-aged children. It also expanded content for middle-school and high-school students, including online math homework help.

The updated product, available on DVD and CD, is scheduled for release this month and will retail at US$69.99, excluding rebates or volume discounts.
