It's always tough to test your fax machine or fax program if you cannot find a friend at home, with a fax machine and who's willing to help.

HP has a site where you can send a fax, and if the fax is good, will send you a return fax in minutes.

Make sure the fax number in the Return Fax Number header is the same as the caller ID on the originating phone ( a security feature)

This won't work for internet fax services then, I presume (caller ID feature).

I needed a method of verifying if Windows Fax Console was working under a different operating environment I recently implemented. Therefore my caller ID is being displayed.

So I would say yes, that in order to perform this test, it has to be done from a resient fax machine or fax program attached to a telephone or VOIP line (as long as outgoing caller ID is supported)
