I'm wondering like what can cause someone to misplace things when asked to like all at once throw away a piece of trash, put a spoon in a dishwasher, bring me so n so back.. and end up putting either the trash in the dishwasher or vice versa ect.... what is that? Can it be just forgetfulness if its been that way for years?

How can I forget what someone just asked me to do say not 2 minutes ago, start walking to do it.. come back to them and not have or even remember what they asked for and have to go backtrack to find where I put it?

Does that make any sense?

I didn't know where to ask this..

It could be caused by many things stress anxiety too much on our minds but if you are concerned talk with a doctor who may run some test to rule out other disorders Your doctor can give you the proper diagnosis okay take care.

Sometimes its to do with having your mind on other things. I put my mail in the freezer after a long phone call with my daughter's teacher.

Indigogirl,

As has been said, speak to your doctor about your momory concerns, as your doctor knows your medical history with which numerous issues can be ruled out.

You may find that it's nothing at all, just that you are overwhelmed with what's going on in your life.

I believe most of us have periods of absent mindedness, perhaps due to distractions, stresses or being tired.

In my case, I keep forgetting where I left my glasses, so I asked my doctor about it. The answer was that I should only become concerned if I forget that I wear glasses!

It's not meant to trivilaize your concerns, which are legitimate. In order to determine what, if anything is going on, speak with your doctor.

Has this been happening all your life, or just recently?

Personally, indigogrl, my forgetfulness over the years has mostly increased as my anxiety has increased. But again, definitely worth mentioning to your doctor. It's my doctor who reassured me about it and explained that anxiety will sometimes to that. Since your doctor knows your full background, s/he's definitely the person to help you figure out why you're now struggling with this. :)

So I'm thinking people are like robots on here with there responses and assume everyone who comes across this place has a doctor...

I feel muted

I don't know why you would feel muted, indigogrl. Several people have replied to your post. But the reality is that most of the time forgetfulness in a healthy adult is nothing to worry about. It happens to everyone, and most of the time is due to stress, having a lot going on in your life, being distracted, etc. For most people, it's not a memory problem at all - it's a problem of attention or focus.

If you're still worried about it, a neurologist or neuropsychologist can do some testing, but there's little we can do to give you a "diagnosis" online.

Do you not have access to medical care, Indigo?

Why do you feel our responses have not been relevant to your situation? Have we missed something in or misinterpreted your query?

Wasn't talking about the forgetfulness thing. Muted was the word I chose because I've mentioned on here that I don't have a doctor and that is in a way.. my problem. Yet every other response to anything I have to say is talk to your doctor (they now you best right?)..... seems like no one has really payed attention to anything I've said so far.

It's like if you said you couldn't drive and then the people you told you can't drive to kept telling you to drive here or... go here.. do this in that car you can't really drive!

...but maybe its just me

Same as what you say, Steve. The responses seemed caring and responsible. Yes, forgetfulness is (as David says) largely due to heavy stress and/or when one has a traumatic experience. I think everyone will have said to him or herself out loud: "I can't think straight". I remember once tearing the house apart looking for my car keys (they were in the freezer, as I had allowed them to slip in there when placing some food on the shelf LOL). There has been a lot of stressful events in my life over the past year, and I have noticed that the forgetfulness just "ups" at those times, and then memory returns to complete and accurate normality as one manages the stress.

Again, I echo what others have said. It is always wise to consult your physician on any health concern.

Hi you say you do not have a doctor we understand. What we are saying is you need to find a doctor so you can get properly diagnosed as we are all here just helping each other we cannot diagnose Phone the hospital in your area and get a list of doctors receiving patients okay or go to the nearest walk in clinic they will have a list as well. If you feel stress is not the answer you are looking for then search around for a doctor who can send you to a specialist okay. I hope this helps. take care

It's not so much that people aren't paying attention. It's more that there are a lot of members on this forum and it's difficult to keep track of everyone's history, medications, and symptoms when replying to a thread.

Perhaps instead of being irritated or hurt it would be better for you and us if you just reminded us when you think a reply isn't appropriate or applicable to you.
