Some researches recently lived in the desert for a period of time to test their ability to unplug themselves from email, the internet, a cell phone, texting, iPod, Fax, Radio, TV....(did I miss anything?).

Have you ever tried getting along without your electronic connections for any length of time?...

Do you think you could? What would be the worst thing that would happen if you would unplug? What would be the best?

Vegas? :D

I do like mixing both the "real world" and the Internet, such as by listening to downloaded audio books while doing chores.

When I was in Vegas last week I left my Blackberry at home but brought my laptop. As a business owner, I felt it was important that my staff be able to get ahold of me in an emergency. I have also been waiting for over two months now to hear about a new business I am interested in purchasing. As it happened, while I was in Vegas my staff didn't need me but the new business deal happened. Without my laptop I would not have been able to sign everything and get it back in time. I did feel slighty "naked" without my Bberry, and I kept thinking I heard it go off, but I didn't. I saved a tonne of money in roaming charges though.

Had it not been waiting for this deal, I might have been brave enough to tell my staff they can't reach me and just deal with things. Maybe I'll have to try that on my next trip...

Sounds like you've done a good job of delegating responsibility!

So much of our business interaction with banks, credit cards, financial institutions, messaging and as you experienced, business transactions is being managed online, that it seems almost impossible to remain unplugged.

I suppose it depends on how much of our business of life requires immediate attention that determines our need for constant connectivity.

Perhaps if someone uses telecommunication for leisure only, they might be able to get by...
