Hi,

Have recently, after 65 years, found I am a habitual liar. Honestly!

Now, how do we know when I am telling the truth in that case? :)

In any event, it is causing a lot of havoc in my relationship and I am having trouble reversing the habits of a lifetime though I desperately want to...at my age, I can't afford to PO any more women.

Looked for support groups for like-afflicted individuals and tripped on this place, thought I'd give 'er a try.

Cheers BDL

BDL,

Welcome to Psychlinks!

Being 65 does not mean change is not possible, and behaviours can be modifies at any age, so long as there is motivation.

Have you ever consulted someone such as a trusted friend or family member, professional colleague, spiritual advisor or a mental health professional to help you change this behaviour?

Hi, BDL,

You will find you can be "truthful" in this wonderful forum. You will find understanding and insight here. Really. :)

Welcome, BDL. Were you really unaware of this until recently? And if so, what brought you to this realization?

Thanks to those welcoming me.

David,

In reply to your above query, yes and no. I was aware I often used lieing to try to save myself from unwanted, unwelcome consequences, even if I was not responsible, but there was a perceived likliehood that I might be held responsible.

What brought me to full, conscious, realization of this was a new relationship with a woman who is highly sensitive to lies and takes them very personally. So at the age of 65 I am left trying to change the ingrained habits of a lifetime. One can certainly make an effort to stop lieing, but some lies are so automatic, they pop out without volition. It is these which I need to get a grip on.

Cheers,

BDL
