DePuy, the manufacturer of a hip replacement prothesis has issued a recall in North America for patients who received their ASR Hip System.
The company explains the concerns on thero website and not all recipients of this system appear to be affected, but testing would determine if corrective action is necessary.
If the surgeon is not available, a telephone call to the hospital, usually to the Patient Records department will provide the information about the brand of prosthetic that was installed.
A personal visit to the hospital may be required or a request in writing may be requested as this information may not be provided over the telephone, but the information is definitely available.

DePuy is recalling the ASR? XL Acetabular Head System and DePuy ASR? Hip Resurfacing System. These systems first became available in July 2003. If you had your hip surgery prior to July 2003, the hip you received is not subject to this recall. Please speak to your orthopaedic surgeon about any questions you may have about your hip replacement.
