I got a question that maybe DR Baxter or anyone else can answer for me. I take Lorazepam 1mg twice a day as needed. Well I felt the anxiety build up this afternoon and I took a pill. It made me a bit tired but didn't help with my anxiety. It got worse tonight where I was picking at scabs of former injuries which now makes it look worse.

In the past before I was medicated for my ADHD I did try Clonazepam but I think I was on a low dose and it didn't help me. So since Lorazepam and Clonazepam are in the same family I would assume that the Clonazepam at a higher dose then what I was taking before wouldn't be much helpful.

So is there a different class of drug I should ask my Psychiatrist opinion on?

I tried so many drugs since the year 2000. I am sure he will give me what he thinks is right but I like to know in advance what types of drug helps people with anxiety and panic attacks.

Thanks

Sue

...I have a prescription for both clonazepam and lorazepam (both for 0.5 mg). If you're struggling with the anxiety, even after taking a pill, I think I would be tempted to ask the psychiatrist if you can get a higher dosage. I don't know Sue - these are the only 2 medications that I'm accustomed to for anxiety. And for me, the anxiety dissipates with them - not always as quickly as I'd like it too, but it certainly takes the edge off the anxiety.

But I would definitely ask my doctor what other medications would be better to take that edge off...Sorry, I know it's not very helpful...:)

It's Ok Jazzey :) I used to be on Oxazepam 10mg and sometimes I would cut the pill in half and I heard that 10 mg of Oxazepam is equal to about 1 mg of Lorazepam. I tried so many drugs in the past. I just wish I could get my medication adjusted to what would work for my body. I hate the fact I picked at those scabs now it looks worse and it's on the arm I get my blood work done tomorrow morning.

Thanks

Sue,

I think that any medication decision should be made in consultation with your doctor. As for what medication works best for anxiety/panic attacks, I too know of Clonazepam and Lorazepam however I am sure that there might be others that help as well but are less well known.

I don't know if this will help but have you tried doing some research on this issue to see what comes up? I would think that DrugDigest and Rxlist.com may be a good starting place.

Take care and remember no matter what information you may find out or come across, it must be checked with your doctor first.

Thanks Halo.
I like researching stuff on the internet then when I have something to discuss with my DR I have a copy of it with me at my next visit. Since my next visit is next week I want to be ready with option to discuss with him. I have tried so many in the past. Most of them were SSRI drugs so I want to know what else there was for anxiety.
