I am in a conversation with someone from the U.K. and they talked about their son on a football pitch.

What's a football pitch?

I know football (U.K) is soccer, correct? what about a pitch?

I was born in England but even I have to admit they are a strange culture sometimes...

The cousins in Aus also use "pitch" although most of us colloquially call it soccer rather than football.
