Hello

I read that omega 3 suplements can prevent psychosis. Is there any study that shows that omega 3 can function as an antypsychotic for those already ill?

I take risperidone and I'm thinking of starting to take omega 3 suplements as a complement for my treatment. Is there any danger of interaction? If there are no interactions, I can only benefict from those suplements, right? Even if it's just the positive efects to the heart.

Thank you in advance.

Check with your doctor and pharmacist, as always, but I am not aware of any risks in taking omega-3 supplements along with risperidone.

I have never heard this claim, or seen any evidence to support such a claim, and I don't believe there is any truth to it at all. It may be somewhat helpful in reducing anxiety or improving mood or attention but that's about it.

No. I don't see anything on Google Scholar or PubMed that shows that omega-3s would be successful in treating psychotic episodes.

Yes, I just looked it up, and it may be possible, at least in younger people before the first psychotic episode. But even in that same report, it's hard to disagree with this statement:

Our own experience with a different omega-3 preparation in risk-syndrome patients was so disappointing that we discontinued the study early on....

Omega-3s May Have Ability to Delay or Prevent Psychosis
