Hello !

I was diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder 2 years ago. Currently, it is not serious enough to warrent treatment with an antipsychotic, however I do take Wellbutrin and Klonopin.

My question is in regards to a number of physical symptoms I am experiencing. These include muscle twitching, gastrointestinal disturbances, fatigue, and others resembling those one experiences under extreme stress. I am not sure if this is related to an anxiety problem, as this has been treated with the Klonopin (1.25 mg). I have had complete lab work (blood, urine, radiology) within the last year. All unremarkable. My diet is healthy, and I exercise 5-6 days a week.

What could this be related to ? How do I go about fixing it ?

Thanks in advance for any help. This is driving me crazy ! :vent:

Are you diagnosed with Anxiety as well? I know with me sometimes when my anxiety acts up I can get an upset stomach as well as some twitching when I am anxious.

Welcome, Andrew.

First, have you discussed this with your psychiatrist? Do you see the psychiatrist or someone else regularly for "therapy" appointments (i.e., not just to review medication)? Do you have any sort of support group you attend?

Regarding your questions:

1. With schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder, anxiety isn't uncommon and the symptoms you describe are consistent with an anxiety disorder.

2. You indicate that you are taking Wellbutrin. In some patients, this can increase symptoms of subjective anxiety and/or feelings of jitteriness. This would be something to discuss with your psychiatrist since it's possible the Wellbutrin is exacerbating your symptoms. There are several options the psychiatrist might consider, including increasing your dose of Klonopin or changing the Wellbutrin to something else.

3. A diagnosis of schizoaffective disorder implies some sort of mood disorder. In your case, is this depression? or hypomania?

Welcome Andrew to the forum. Definitely bring up your symptoms with your doctor or psychiatrist as it could be very well the medication as Dr Baxter has said. Your psychiatrist will need to know so he or she can adjust it okay Take care
