I just have a question about Trytophan being used in conjunction with Prozac. I have been prescribed both (40 mg of Prozac and 3 g of Trytophan). I am finding that I am waking up at approximately the same time every morning (hours before I have to get out of bed) and I am then unable to fall back asleep. My pharmacist gave me detailed print-outs of both medications and they do indicate that the 2 are not recommended unless under a physician's supervision (which is the case for me). Has anyone ever taken the 2 together?
Several months ago, I was on Prozac (only) and I relapsed (depression and anxiety came back as though I wasn't on any medications), and so Pristiq was prescribed to me. Pristiq did not work for me at all so I am starting from scratch again (depression and anxiety is at its worst once again) with Prozac. Has anyone found that 40mg of Prozac did not work, although 60 mg did/does?
Feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you so very much.

None of us here are really equipped to answer the detailed questions you are asking about dosages and drug interactions. They really must be directed toward your doctors, who know something about your medical history and current medical status.

Anything anyone her could say would be pure speculation and possibly dangerous. Please talk to your doctor(s).

I am under a doctor's care; my next appointment is a week today so I just figured I would ask for the opinion of others in the meantime. I wouldn't change my dose on my own accord based on someone else's experience. I am not too familiar with this forum as I thought that this is something I can get a bit of feedback on. I do understand where you are coming from though.

Thank you

Yes, we can give members some feedback. The problerm with your specific questions is that there are too many factyors ro be considered, many of which involve your personal medical history and status.

For example, you indicate that you have been prescribed 40 mg of Prozac and 3 g of Trytophan. Your doctor knows you and your medical history and status, and I assume he has good reasons for receommending that combination. For others, that same combination might not be recommended. Among other things, I would guess that whether you would be prescribed tryptophan at all would depend on what other medications and what doses you are prescribed, as well as general health and liver and kideny functioning. In your case, what might be okay at 40 mg of prozac might not be okay at 60 mg of prozac.

As to whether some peoiple require dosages above 40 mg of Prozac, the answer is yes. But whether a higher dose would provide any benefit to you is something that should be discussed with your doctor.
