I have discusses with family .dr, She increased my meds. I think they are making me worse.

Why don't you give us some additional details so we can better understand your situation, Rusty.

What is your doctor's diagnosis of your condition, and are you being seen by your family physician, a specialist and/or any other (mental) health provider?

What medications have been prescribed, and for how long have you been taking them? Have you ever been treated for this condition before and have you ever beenprescribed similar medications in the past...with succes or failure?

Is your concern that your symptoms are not being relieved or that your medications are causing unpleasant side effects?

If you would share this information with us, we may be able to offer some insights.

Reply to Steve's questions: I have moderate to severe depression. I was diagnosed years ago by a mental health provider. I have been on medication for years. Paxil first by family dr. Then Lithium by specialist. I did,nt like it so I quit taking it. Then went to family dr. and was put on Effexor. I am still taking it. But have insominia with this. So Dr. put me on Imovane, and also Trazodone. I have been taking these for years also. Does this seem too much? Also I have been having very bad days for weeks now. I had a break down at work uncontrable crying and just a basket case. I have been off work now two months. I am scheduled to go back next week, but I don,t know if I can. I can,t even get up or dressed in the morning. I just can,t move and sit around. I feel like I,m not even alive or that I,m right out of it, I don,t care and have no energy or interest. I just want to feel something again and be normal.

Rusty,

Sorry to hear that you might be experiecing a relapse of your symptoms. Have you been in recent contact with the doctor who prescribed the medications you're currently taking to review your situation?

Was your time off work ordered by the doctor and are you receiving disability benefits? If you feel you're not ready to return to work, can you speak to your doctor, your benefits coordinator or someone else managing your case to review your abilility to resume your full duties?

Are you sleeping better now that you are taking the Immovane, or did you mean you are experiencing insomnia after having started the Immovane?

Treating the illnss of depresion can be a lengthy process, often requiring adjustments in medications and / or dosages until just the right combination is found for your particular body / brain chemistry. There is no "one medication/dosage" fits all, so as patients we need to be patient and persevere with our doctors in finding what works for us.

Stopping a medication because of adverse effects is not recommended, but rather reporting back to the doctor so that a change in meds or dosage can be made should result in symptom relief along with reduction in side effects.

Your doctor knows your medical history, your diagnosis and how you respond to certain medications. Your best strategy would be to arrange an appointment with your doctor, explain how you are feeling these days, your concerns about return to work and ask about your options at this time.

I sleep better with Imovane. I see my dr. next week. I have no more sick time left at work and do not have dissability coverage at work. So I,m stuck between a rock and a hard place, with the possibility on no income. Thank-you for replying to me. I have a very hard time talking to people and I think this forum is good for me.

I have difficulty talking to people in person and hide my true feelings and self so no-one really knows how I feel or know that I,m hurting inside.

I keep everything inside and never let my guard down for fear they might find out that I,m mixed up and really have no feeling about anything.
I just exsist and don,t enjoy myself or life itself. I feel numb all the time. How do I change this feeling ?
