OCD Chicago?s Dr. Gail Adams Publishes School Handbook
OCD Chicago, the leading provider of consumer resources to help sufferers cope with and conquer OCD, announces the publication of Dr. Gail Adams? new book, ?Students with OCD: A Handbook for School Personnel.?
Gail Adams, Ed.D., an esteemed member of OCD Chicago?s Scientific Advisory Board (?SAB?), has published ?Students with OCD: A Handbook for School Personnel,? the definitive resource on obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) in the school environment. ?Providing a detailed window into this often misunderstood and overlooked disorder, the comprehensive guide is the key to changing the lives of the estimated one out of every 100 children who battle OCD at any given time,? said Dr. Adams. ?School personnel, parents and health professionals become the critical link between OCD and education when they are empowered to better recognize, understand and work with the disorder. This allows bright and promising students to realize their full potential,? she continued.
Dr. Adams has worked in the area of children?s mental health issues for over 20 years. As a researcher, she has extensively examined the impact of obsessive compulsive disorder on school-aged children and the role of school personnel in identifying, assessing, and treating OCD. Dr. Adams has provided educational training on OCD, AD/HD, Tourette Syndrome, and Asperger?s Syndrome to physicians, mental health professionals, school personnel, parents, and students. In addition, she has worked closely with school personnel and parents to facilitate and improve the performance of students with OCD who struggle in school. Dr. Adams is a retired faculty member in the Department of Teaching and Learning at Northern Illinois University. She currently is an educational consultant.
Dr. Adams received a B.A. in Elementary Education at the University of Illinois at Chicago. She earned a Master's Degree in Special Education as well as a doctorate in Educational Psychology at Northern Illinois University. She has over 30 years of teaching experience from Kindergarten through the graduate level.
