Re: agoraphobia/anxiety disorders

Welcome to Psychlinks Andrew :)

Can you be a little more specific in your question Andrew? What kinds of anxiety problems? Is your partner on any medications? seeing a therapist? What difficulties are you having in helping your partner dealing with anxiety and agoraphobia?

Re: agoraphobia/anxiety disorders

any help available for me dealing with my partner's problems as noted in title

Hello Andrew,

Welcome to Psychlinks!

Are you looking for information and support for yourself in dealing with a person with agoraphobia and anxiety disorders, or are you looking for information to pass along to your partner in how to deal with these disorders?.

Re: agoraphobia/anxiety disorders

Hi Jazzey,
First of all I have difficulty in notizing the "condition" of anxiety, trouble going out of the home to do mondial things eg grocery shopping/paying bills etc.She is on med's eg atavan, and other med's.She does not see a therapist, but has been on/off to seeing a spiritual therapist.I know when I see her that something is amiss, but what is it exactly?
Our relationship has paid the prize on and off.

yes,she is

Has the doctor provided you with anything in terms of information or support of any kind?

Psychlinks doesn't offer disagnoses. Having said that, if Psychlinks can support you somehow, then we'd be happy to do that for you. Specifically, what information are you looking for? Information on how to help a partner deal with agoraphobia and anxiety? Information on how to deal with a partner with these issues? There's a lot of information here and I'm willing to do a bit of research online for you too - can you just narrow the line of question a little for me? :)

Hi Jazzey,
My thanks to you for helping me out. I have read many of the sites you listed.
Looking forward to more info if you can find it.That would be great..........Andrew

Andrew,

Parnate (tranylcypromine) is an effective treatment for major depressive disorder, and is usually prescribed after other anti depressants have not successfully treated the illness.

Do you know if your partner has been prescribed other antidepressants prior to the Parnate?

You and your partner must be aware that Parnate, which belongs to a class of medications known as MAO inhibitors (monoamine oxidase inhibitor) or MAOI, and requires very strict monitoring by not only the physician but by the person taking it as there are a number of drug/drug and drug/food interactions that can occur.

Whenever a new medication is prescribed, ask the doctor and then the pharmacist as a double check if there are any interactions to be concerned about with the Parnate.

You will find further insights into Parnate on Drugs.com

You also mentioned your partner is taking Ativan (lorazepam) which is a minor tranquilizer belonging to the benzodiazepine class of medications.

How has the Ativan been prescribed? Is it taken on a regular daily schedule or taken as needed? At what dose?

Are there any other medications that have been prescribed, or any herbal remedies or alternative drugs being taken?

For your information, there do not appear to be any drug/drug interactions between these two medications according to the Medscape Drug Interaction Checker
