Beef products recalled due to E. coli concerns

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is warning consumers and food companies after an Alberta company voluntarily recalled a number of beef products because of possible contamination of E. coli bacteria.
The meat, some of which was distributed nationally, was used in Kirkland Signature and Safeway brands. It was also sent to Wal-Mart stores in B.C., Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
The CFIA says there have been no reported illnesses but has a complete list of the products on its website. Consumers who are unsure if they have any recalled items are being told to check with the store where the products were purchased.
Most of the products, from XL Food, were distributed in B.C., Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario.
The meat may have been contaminated with E. coli O157:H7 and might not look or smell spoiled, according to the CFIA. Consumption of beef contaminated with the bacteria can cause serious and potentially life-threatening illnesses.
