Bill MacPhee is the Founder & Publisher of Schizophrenia Digest & Vice President of BP Magazines and is launching a new advocacy campaign titled Minds for Action

Bill MacPhee was diagnosed with schizophrenia at the age of twenty-four.? After years of struggling with this disease, he has emerged as an entrepreneur, a publisher, an inspirational speaker and now a champion for people with mental illness.?

Ten years after he first started talking to audiences around the world about schizophrenia, Bill has decided to launch the Minds for Action advocacy campaign.? The campaign's goal is to help create a better mental health system in Canada, one that will lead to an improved quality of life for all people and their families living with severe mental illness.

Over the next five months, Bill will launch the campaign in Ontario, and will be traveling throughout the province telling his story and asking others to join him in his advocacy campaign.?

Bill has chosen four issues or public policy areas to focus on.? These four have been chosen in part because of what people have told him over the years, they are concerned about or the challenges they face, and also in part because of his own personal experience in the recovery process from a severe mental illness.? These issues are:

1. access to medications
2. job skills and training
3. Coroner's inquest recommendations, and
4. the final report of The Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology on Mental Health, Mental Illness and Addiction

The advocacy campaign is not meant to represent the totality of the issues faced by people with schizophrenia and their families.? It is also meant to compliment, not conflict, with all of the important policy and advocacy work being done by other organizations in this area, such as the Schizophrenia Society of Canada, the Schizophrenia Society of Ontario, the Canadian Mental Health Association, and other individuals and organizations working in the field of mental health.
