Hey everyone. Well I'm hoping you can help me with an ongoing problem I've been having. For the last ten years ago, almost every night, I've been dreaming about my childhood. Not one particular incident, but the home I lived in, my family (my dad mainly) the kids I interacted with. None of the dreams are pleasant (nor was my childhood)....in fact most of them are pretty disturbing. For example a few nights ago I dreamt about a kid I had a crush on when I was 11. Me trying to get his attention and him being disgusted...then he gets cancer and I'm still trying to get his attention. Alot of the dreams take place in my childhood bedroom. Its very frusterating because its from so long ago and I can't understand how come in all my dreams I'm in this old house with these all these people from my past. Does this sound like Post Traumatic Stress to you?? Please help.

Hi Roxy,

Disturbing dreams can be very unsettling. Our subconsciouses have something to answer for!

Nightmares are a characteristic of PTSD, but they must be accompanied by certain other symptoms for a diagnosis to occur. Online diagnosis is never a good idea in any case: it would be much more adviseable to talk to your GP about whether or not PTSD is what is going on for you.

What forums are good for, though, is talking about coping strategies and having space to share frustrations, concerns, and successes. Are these dreams causing you to lose sleep? How are you trying to deal with them?
