College Life 101: The Reality of Undergrad - CollegeBound.net

OK, so college life isn't exactly like "The Real World" -- the TV show, that is. Room and board aren't free, unless you get a scholarship. There won't be as much partying -- at least, let's hope not. And your dorm won't come with a hot tub, unless you bring your own.

So what can you expect to see in the real world of college life? These books offer tips to help you along the way.

"The Naked Roommate: And 100 Other Issues You Might Run Into in College" (Sourcebooks, 2005)
The Gist: Experts and students give advice about college roommates, relationships, friends, finances, dorm life, alcohol, Greek life, even laundry.

Extra Credit: Real-life anecdotes from undergrads

"Real College: The Essential Guide to Student Life" (Penguin Books, 2004)
The Gist: This "textbook" will get you through the most important college life course of all: Reality. Topics include socializing, parents, depression, and eating disorders.

Extra Credit:
Sample e-mails to send profs and friends for circumstances like how to get an extension on an assignment or ask out your crush

"College of the Overwhelmed" (Jossey-Bass, 2004)
The Gist: What is the campus mental health crisis, and what should you do about it? This book provides an action plan for confronting serious psychological issues during your college life or helping your college roommates if they have problems.

Extra Credit: Web sites and resources to get help for particular situations
