I believe I am having dizziness as a side effect to one of my new medications. It's been going on since I started taking the new med and doesn't seem to be going away. I get up and almost pass out. I have to put my head down below my knees to feel better.

Is this a side effect that could go away? I could live with it I guess, but it's hard.

What is the name of the medication? Are you getting enough iron? I know for myself that if I don't have enough iron or I have low blood sugar I do get light headed. When did you last eat?

I would really recommend that you make an appointment with your GP so he/she can check your blood pressure and other things to make sure your ok.

I do have anemia. I hadn't really thought of that. The medications that are new are Remeron and Abilify. It seems to happen if I eat or not. I'll be sure and bring it up with my doctor at the end of the month.

Dizziness and light headedness are possible side effects of these medications, but since there may be other medical issues requiring your doctor's interpretation, your best advice would be to report this occurance to the doctor.

In the meantime, when standing up, do so slowly and stabilize yourself before beginning to walk.

Janet,

I really think that if the dizziness continues that you may want to call and make a doctors appointment sooner than the end of the month. Like Ladylore said, sometimes if you blood sugar is low or if you haven't eaten enough then you may experience dizziness as well.

Either way, it is always best to talk to your doctor.

Take care

I'm still struggling with dizziness. Sometimes I feel like I'm just going to black out. I've been doing better with eating so I don't think it's related to my eating disorder. I've also noticed I'm pretty shaky. These are side effects I can live with though because I've been feeling better. Although my motivation to do things is low I am not having suicidal ideation anymore. If that makes any sense.

i am glad to hear the thoughts about suicide are gone now. :goodjob:

have you mentioned the dizziness to your doctor at all? i think it would still be a good idea to check in with her about it, just in case.

Even though you are feeling better which is great, I think that I would still mention the dizziness and shaking to your doctor. It may not be related to your medication at all but it is definitely something to get checked out.

I haven't mentioned it to her yet. I will next time I see her. When I'm there it's hard to think of everything sometimes.

On the nutrition side of things - how much iron are you getting in your diet? Not having enough iron in my system can give the symptoms you describe.

I am anemic. I did find that out when I was in the hospital. Plus I'm vegetarian so it's harder to get iron into my system. I need to look for a good multi-vitamin. I wonder if that could be causing the dizziness?

a multi vitamin is probably a good idea, but you can also in addition to that take iron pills. check with your local pharmacist to see what is available.
