Author Wades Through 'Mental Health Madness'
Fresh Air from WHYY, April 17, 2006 ? When journalist Pete Earley's son was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, it sent him on an effort not only to get his son properly diagnosed and treated, but to understand the nation's mental health system. Earley's book about the experience is Crazy: A Father's Search Through America's Mental Health Madness.
Earley, a former reporter for The Washington Post, found that our jails and prisons have become our new state asylums.
I tried replying to this post earlier but the forum was working properly (not sure if anyone noticed or not ) Anyway, just wanted to say it was a very interesting program but a disquieting one. I couldn't imagine the frustration and the fear for his son that he must have felt.
Thanks g-scared. It was an eye-opener.
And I noticed the same story on your blog Dr. Baxter, after I followed g-scared's link however. But it was very good also, thanks.
