Not sure if I should post this here or not, but I am hoping that someone could help me out with some information regarding liver enlargment.

They aren't sure at this point what is causing it. Had all the blood work done, nothing showed up. The mri showed an enlared lvier etc... I dont' understand the report, of course.

This has me a bit concerned as I'm not sure of the implications of this.

In december of 01 I had an emergency gal bladder surgery with complications. My liver enlarged and I had pancre****, both of which seemed to have calmed down, the liver enzymes went back to normal. Doc said there was no guarantee that the liver would not enlarge down the road.

What I don't understand is why? I need cholesteral medication and take Zetia, which is supposed to not effect the liver. Since the cholesterol isn't coming down they had wanted to put me on somethign else, which is why they did the mri, to check the liver's progress since the last enlargement.

I also have an elarged left thyroid with a tumor in it that is very small but at this point not showing any signs of cancer. Coudl one be related to the other? Is the anemia from the liver enlargment? Lack of appetite from the liver?

Ugh. I am so sorry you're feeling weak. I don't know much about liver problems.

Were you on anything else recently? Any other medications?

No, meds are all the same, and the blood pressure pill I stop taking when I feel like this, only because the reason for it is heart rate, and I have low pressure to start with.

Remind me to get into the habit of checking pressure every day.

I have the oxycodone (pharmacy gave me that instead of oxycontine this time, hmm, wonder if there is a difference between the two?)

Hydrocodone, altace, the blood pressure pill, generic vallium, only to be taken for breathing attacks and the muscle spasam headaches, so I am very stern with myself on this as doctor stressed the addictiveness of this medication.

Only ones I take every morning are the altace and on oxy. IF I need the other pain meds through the day I take them, but only as needed as I am so concious of addiction on these things. Maybe too consious as I wait too long sometimes to take the pain meds. :-(

Right now I am going through all my templates that I have made as I have had my first freelance job offer for a template. I told her I would gather what I had she could look at them all and figure out ifi she wnated one of those or a combo of a couple. Heh, my first offer, I hope I dont' fail at it feeling like rudolphs pop that got crushed!

btw thanks for yoru resopnse, its greatly appreciated.

I just lost my whole post. LOL.

Oxycontin is, I think, the trade name for oxycodone.

Is there any way you could see some kind of specialist? Could your regular doctor refer you to one? I know that is another appointment and that is a pain.

That sounds great. I could not do that. I get too confused and frustrated with computers.

I do have two speicalists that I have to call, just promised someone I was on the phone with I would call now. so I have to uphold that promise though I dont' feel like it :icon_geek:

One is a specialist for the liver the other is for the thyorid, one specialist at a time though. Not sure I could handle both of them.

And since my poor doctor has so much to handle, I think I'll schedule a cardiologist appt instead of depending on him for all that is wrong. There is too much going on with me for just him to handle.

One of the things of liver enlargment as per a link that Erin sent to me was heart failure. I haven't had an echo study done for a while so it is possible with the weakness etc.. the injection fraction could be low again.

This year for christmas I want a new body!

Call!! I hope you will call. I am kind of going through the same thing. Not wanting to call, but needing to. :(

I did see that there is a link between heart failure and liver enlargement. The internet can be scary when you're looking up medical information.

I'm going to call and at least get on a waiting list.

I'm glad you called. :)

I don't know why it is so hard to do sometimes.

Ok, go in for liver enlargment check up, end up having a colonscopy! Go figure, lol!

Anyonw, doc isn't concerened right now with the liver, it is only slightly enlarged. So we just need to keep an eye on it. I get blood work done every 4 months to check it out. I have to go this upcoming week for the bloodwork on it.

and the scope was fine as well. whew

Now, the next two sepcialist I need to see is the endo for the nodule on the thyroid, and a gyn. Menstural has been almost contstant since I got back from california end of march, and I even had it before I left, but it stopped two days into the visit.

btw, thanks through these eyes for your post!

Obesity can cause many problems, but I am not sure if liver enlargment is one of them.

Just from what I am going through, Mine is just heart failure that, according to Deborah Heart and Lung Hospital, is caused by one of 3 things,
  • 1. The disc that is in slight contact with the cord at the thoracic level of 8-9..
  • 2. Living with Chronic pain..
  • 3. A virus.

It is interesting that you have found information regarding a relation to both liver enlargement and heart failure, if you could post information regarding I can take this to my doctor and let him see it. Since they aren't sure what is causing this, maybe this could help them out in my treatments?

I found some information about liver Enlargement and it says General classes of causes include infection (viral, bacterial, or parasitic), malignancy (cancer or tumors), anemias, storage diseases, heart failure, congenital heart disease, toxins, and metabolic disturbances. Remeber Im no doctor thank god. And I found all this information on the internet. :) I didn't know what kind of heart failure they ment by that. So thats why I asked if it was COPD or CHF I don't know was just a thought. Good luck though

I forgot to add just incase CHF was an unfamilar word?
Congestive heart failure (CHF), or heart failure, is a condition in which the heart can't pump enough blood to the body's other organs.

COPD Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), which encompasses both chronic bronchitis and emphysema
That is if you area a smoker or was a smoker.
