Hello everyone. I have been keeping my anxiety to myself for fears and just recently came across a video that has gotten me to start talking about my illness. By this young man named Michael Kimber. He made me feel like I had to start talking about it so that my daughter wouldn't have to go through the same sort of shame I did. Anyways..really glad to be talking about it with such nice people.

I started Psychlinks Forums in 1994 because I was appalled at the existing "support forums" at the time, where I saw untrained and ignorant owners and members giving dangerously wrong and misguided advice to forum members (including advising them to ignore the recommendations of physicians, psychiatrists, psychologists, and other mental health professionals), or out and out attacks by groups of members on vulnerable indivduals with mental health issues. Other forum encouraged suicide and self-harm and other dangerous practices or existed primarily to promote the sale of quack "cures".

The idea behind the forum, as laid out in our Basic Forum Rules and Principles, was to remedy that deficit.

Welcome to Psychlinks DDB!

Would you give us more info about the video?

It's not unusual for an adult to have kept a disorder as a deep dark secret until one day learning that the disorder has a name and that there are millions of others experiencing the exact same symptoms.

so that my daughter wouldn't have to go through the same sort of shame I did

In your life, DDB, how has your disorder translated in to the shame you've experienced?
