Hello everyone, my name is Melissa and I joined the forums a couple of weeks ago, but didn't make my first post until tonight. To be honest I was a little shy and have been a little too busy to explore the forums before making a first post.
But tonight I opened the forum newsletter, and I immediately saw the columns of the most recent posts -- I saw all these zeros and thought, "No way, there can't be a thread with no responses!"
But anyway, that's what got me to make my first post.
I recently graduated from UC San Diego studying Cognitive Science. I specialized in Clinical Aspects of Cognition, which means I took more psychology electives (of which you can never get enough). I'm definitely a psychology-oriented person, constantly working on my own personal growth and reading and writing about emotions and how we can work with them instead of against them.
Since graduating, I've only been working part-time, so I have had a lot of time to tend to writing projects that I've been working hard at. One of the projects is my new blog (in my sig), which is dedicated to emotional health and awareness.
So I keep pretty busy immersed in projects centering around my passions for writing and psychology, which I dream of building into a career.
But with all this work, I'm learning the importance of the internet and the connection it makes possible. Not only for marketing purposes, but for real connection and learning. While I try to write with authority on my blog - I know that the only way I can shed light to what emotions really are and how we can work with them, is I am constantly learning from others as well, because in order to really figure out our emotions, we need to work together. There is so much promise in new fields, like cognitive-affective science, but communities can also answer important questions together, such as: what is the value of our emotions? how can we choose to work with them?
Anyway, to learn more about me you can visit my blog and "about" page.
I'm really excited to be here and I look forward to learning from you all.
