I have applied to a local counselling foundation about training to become a pyschodynamic therapist. I have been for an interview and they have wrote back confirming I could start either this September or sept 2013.

If anyone has any advice on what is worth reading etc, or any other general comments and advice that would be much appreciated

Many Thanks Simon

Congrats, simon!

Ralph Greenson's "Technique and Practice of Psychoanalysis, Vol 1" is a valuable summary of psychodynamic thought
Glen O Gabbard's "Long Term Psychodynamic Psychotherapy" gives a great overview of the field, as does...
Nancy McWilliam's "Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy: A Practitioner's Guide"
Mitchell & Black's "Freud and Beyond" gives an excellent history of psychodynamic therapy, but I'd say
Althea Horner's "Being and Loving" is probably the most user friendly, warm introduction to psychodynamic thought.

My general advice - Get a strong background (like the Mitchell book), but expect to gather more questions than answers as you continue to learn!

I hope this helps!
