I have been in a group at the counseling center I attend called Seeking Safety. Seeking Safety is a present-focused therapy to help people attain safety from trauma/PTSD and substance abuse. It has helped me immensely. I feel so much safer with triggers, dealing with people, and my own self worth. You can read more about it at Seeking Safety
The key principles of Seeking Safety are:
1) Safety as the overarching goal (helping clients attain safety in their relationships, thinking, behavior, and emotions).
2) Integrated treatment (working on both PTSD and substance abuse at the same time)
3) A focus on ideals to counteract the loss of ideals in both PTSD and substance abuse
4) Four content areas: cognitive, behavioral, interpersonal, case management
5) Attention to clinician processes (helping clinicians work on countertransference, self-care, and other issues)
I hope that this info helps some of you. It has certainly been a major help for me. I still have 4 topics to cover but I have made so much progress so far.
