Salad bags sold in N.B., N.S., Newfoundland and Labrador, Ontario and Nunavut

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is warning the public not to eat Earth Green Brand Organic Italian Blend salad because it could be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

Sobeys Quebec Inc. distributed the salad bags in Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, P.E.I., Newfoundland and Labrador, Ontario and Nunavut.

According to the CFIA, there have been no illnesses reported that can be linked to eating the salad.

The public is being warned to stay away from Earth Greens brand Organic Italian Blend salad, product of USA, which is sold in a 198 gram plastic clamshell package. Consumers are being advised to look for salad bags with the UPC code 8 18431 00107 3, the best before date of 2012 JL 13 and lot code 2217915MI.

Sobeys Quebec is voluntarily recalling the salad bags, according to the federal agency.

The CFIA said in a statement that it is monitoring the recall.

The salad bags may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, a bacteria that can cause listeriosis.

The food-borne illness causes high fever, severe headache, neck stiffness and nausea. At-risk groups include pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems.

The federal food inspection agency says any food that is contaminated with Listeria may not look or smell spoiled.
