UNITED STATES—All good San Jose pet owners have the desire and the responsibility to ensure their pet is well cared for. This means giving your furry friend lots of love and attention, ensuring their nutritional needs and met, and making sure they get treatment and medical care whenever it is needed. When it comes to the latter, some people struggle to get appointments to go and see a vet, and this could be for a variety of reasons. However, there is an alternative in today’s digital age, and this comes in the form of online vets in San Jose.

More and more pet owners in the area now turn to telemedicine for their pets, and this is because this method boasts a range of valuable benefits. It is something that can benefit both you and your pet, and there are many reasons why people now turn to this solution. In fact, over recent years with the global pandemic making face-to-face appointments difficult, telemedicine for pets has soared in popularity. Today, this popularity continues despite restrictions now having been lifted. In this article, we will look at some of the benefits of using online vets for pet care.

Some of the Benefits You Can Look Forward To

There are many benefits that come with using reputable online vets to get advice and treatment for your pet. Some of the main ones are:

More Convenient for You

One of the key benefits for you as a pet owner is that it is far more convenient to choose online appointments rather than having to travel to see a vet. If you have other commitments such as family and work, it can be difficult to find a slot that does not disrupt your schedule and cause inconvenience. However, with telemedicine, you can contact the vet from the comfort and privacy of your own home.

Far Less Stressful for Your Pet

Another huge benefit of seeking help from online vets is that it is far less stressful for your pet. Most pet owners become stressed themselves when they see the stress that their beloved pet goes through whenever a visit to see the vet is necessary. Well, with this solution, you can avoid all of this stress, but you still get the advice and treatment required for your pet. This is a hugely appealing benefit that has made this method of veterinary care more popular.

Speedier Resolution to Issues

Of course, you also have to consider the speed of service and treatment that you can get with online vet consultations. Getting a face-to-face appointment can be difficult at times, and the last thing you want is a lengthy wait for an appointment when your pet needs veterinary treatment and advice. With online vets, you can get a far quicker appointment and a speedier resolution.

These are some of the key benefits that you can look forward to when you turn to online vets in San Jose.

Vetster has online services in Canada as well.

But the vets in many U.S. states like Arizona are not allowed to prescribe medications online.

Regarding prescriptions in Canada:

"Customers in Canada may receive a prescription from a Vetster veterinarian and have it fulfilled at an outside pharmacy. As with all prescription services, this is governed by local laws and is at the discretion of your Vetster veterinarian."

Some of the issues they may treat:

With veterinary telemedicine, you talk to a vet over text, phone, or video chat to get real-time advice on what you should do for your pet. It's not a replacement for regular in-office visits, and most vets on telemedicine services can't diagnose or prescribe medications for pets they haven't previously seen in person, but they are able to give helpful advice. The coronavirus pandemic made these teleservices all the more vital, and we think the appeal will last long after the pandemic is over.

Similarly, form a company blog in China:

At present, China’s pet industry has entered a stable and mature period of growth, and the market size in 2020 is close to RMB 300 billion yuan [45 billion USD]. Affected by the epidemic, more and more people will have their own pets, and the industry is expected to be worth RMB 445.6 billion yuan [66 billion USD] by 2023. Together with the rising industry scale are the increasing complaints from pet owners about seeking medical help from offline pet hospitals.

A large number of pet owners complain about non-transparent, high costs for offline medical services for pets, unprofessional veterinarians, and inconvenient transportation. Online consultation services will help solve these obstacles facing pet owners, making it transparent and convenient.

When an industry is stifled by homogeneity, it can breed a culture of leaders often inflexible to change, advocates say. Amid a pandemic, when social distancing restrictions limited in-person appointments, some veterinarians criticized the AVMA for not tweaking its telemedicine policy, which discourages vets from prescribing medication or diagnosing new pet patients remotely except in emergency situations. The AVMA said it does not regulate or set laws that govern the use of telemedicine, but some vets say industry leaders should be better champions for changing those laws nationwide. For some, it was the latest example that the industry was not keeping up with the times.

“The veterinary industry, in general, has been very resistant to change in every facet,” Price says. Since July, nearly 6,000 people have signed an online petition, written by nearly a dozen multicultural advocacy groups, calling for the AVMA to take concrete steps to assess where it stands with inclusion issues and to ensure an equitable process for all. “Our profession could really benefit from more diversity because it brings creativity,” Price says. “It brings innovation and it brings new ideas.”

The online vet visit at Vetster went extremely well, which is what I expected since their Google rating is 4.9 out of 5. The company is a Canadian startup based in Toronto.

All of their vets have to write notes about the visit, which you can download afterwards. I took notes as well. The vet was very reassuring and extremely informative. You can even ask questions to the vet for 72 hours after the appointment via the messaging system.

The vet I chose is an emergency vet who works in Phoenix. Unlike most vets, she has published research articles. She charges the minimum rate of $50 per online visit. There is also a twenty percent booking fee for Vetster's services. However, you can save 30% off the total with a promo code (SUMMERTIME30).

The vet answered all my lingering questions about my active senior dog with metastatic/terminal kidney cancer. The vet was extremely knowledgable and almost like talking to an aritifcial ingelligence from the future :)

It went so well, I scheduled an appointment for my other senior dog with chronic issues. I also scheduled an appointment with an exotic bird vet for my chicken flock.

So, in summary, while the vets at Vester often cannot prescribe medication, that may actually be a good thing, just like they have no ability to push unnecessary procedures either. So it is a great way to get a second opinion about a variety of questions (including questions that question the status quo).

There are several solution-oriented strategies that can help in the short-term, Dr. Salois explained, such as telemedicine and other technological innovations, better utilization of veterinary technicians, and creating a sense of purpose and belonging for all members of the animal care team.

JustAnswer.com, which I have used successfully before, has subscription pricing, allowing unlimited questions for multiple pets:

You are able to upload photos, documents, etc:

To send a photo or file, it must be 5MB or less and in one of the following formats: GIF, PNG, JPEG, ZIP, RAR, PDF, DOC, XLS, PPT, DOCX, XLSX, SWF, FLV, WMV. If your photo or file is larger than 5MB, please resize it or send it to customer support at upload@justanswer.com.

Like most online vets, they are not able to prescribe medications. So I would use them only for minor issues, second opinions, or for more information about things.

Unlike Chewy.com, JustAnswer is available 24/7.
