Just did a quick search on it....based on what I saw, it seems to be prescribed for anti-convulsions and/or migraines. Having said this, there seem to be a lot of side-effects. I'm guessing that this is not a medication to take without medical consult.
Hope I'm not offending. But it seems like a scary med. Were you considering it solely for weight loss?
I just quickly looked at the side effects on the websites - I just thing that they're important enough to discuss with your doctor. I'm enclosing a site for you - TOPAMAX Side Effects
I'll let you read the side-effects. I guess the memory loss is what concerned me. However, if this is being prescribed by your doctor, then there are good reasons for it. I was just concerned that you were taking it solely for the weight loss.
Every medication has potential side-effects but most affect only a small percentage of people actually taking the drug. I have several current clients taking Topamax who are experiencing no side effects at all.
Topamax is often used to help control mood swings, for example with bipolar disorder.
It does not cause the patient to lose weight per se. However, for many patients it may have the effect of reducing appetite somewhat - and for some people that may help them to avoid gaining more weight or to lose weight if they are already overweight.
...sorry Prayerbear - I really didn't mean to lead you down the wrong path...I've just read the post on reading side effects to prescription medications.
Again, I apologize.
