What is with people?

Sometimes I wonder what goes through people's minds as they abuse people.
How they can get such pleasure from beating a helpless child?

Why did Mom feel she had to beat me and degrade me like she did?
Why did that counselor have to rape me, and totally screw up a little boy's life?

it's about power, i think. the ability to hurt someone like that makes them feel better about themselves. maybe because they've been hurt in similar ways, and this is how they let out their anger.

you just happened to be the target closest to them that they could control.
