Soldier proposes on voicemail to wrong number
CBC News
Thursday, January 27, 2011

A phone message, apparently from an emotional British soldier proposing to his pregnant girlfriend from Afghanistan, is being broadcast around the world after it was left on the wrong answering machine.

Diane Potts, a 44-year-old mother of three, was the recipient of the message, which professes love for a "Samantha."

Speaking to CBC News from Newcastle, Potts said she felt it was her "duty" to locate the right woman and communicate the message to her. Potts digitized the voicemail and sent it to media outlets, with the hope that the message was genuine and could bring "a happy ending" for the couple.

Having a marriage proposal broadcast around the world may seem romantic, but viral videos of marriage proposals being rejected are an entirely different matter.
