I was checking online today for links for a project I am doing on eating disorders although I probably have more knowledge than many sites will ever have. I found myself on this site called youtube with videos and well at first I thought pro! but then I looked further and once I checked some of them out tears came to my face. Some were about girls that died. Some about girls that are trying to survive and mostly trying to raise awarness and it touched me deeply to see how this impacts so many people! So I just wanted to share that with some of you cause to see people talk about it and about the horrors we go through every day helps make all the good sides just fade away.

Does anyone have any information about youtube? After reading this post I decided to check it out under anorexia. I was not impressed, even under anorexia most of what I saw was pornographic and I received an immediate warning from my virus scan. I had to spend the next twenty minutes cleaning and deleting files. I use my computer for work and can not afford to have it infected. I will not be returning to youtube unless someone can let me know of a better way to access it. Dear Ashley-Kate, I am not sure youtube is the best place to be looking for information - hopefully someone can pass on some more secure sites and other places to get information. Mari

YouTube is a site where anyone with a free account can post short videos. Like any similar websites, you should expect the quality to be variable and the content to be wide-ranging.

I agree.

BTW, Google Video seems slightly more sophisticated than YouTube since it includes Google Talks and the Charlie Rose TV show, though, of course, that's just one part of it and YouTube is owned by Google.

yes i know it is not the best place to look for info i am not saying that it is the best and that everyone should go see cause i don't nessesarly aprove of everythig on the site but i am not going to say it is all terrible cause some girls that are eigther in recovery or that have losed someone close do to an eating disorder put messages on that site expressing the pain and sadness that the e-d brings and i am just saying that hearing the pain from someone else is very eye opening!

Some people do use it as a virtual self-help group since they do get video responses to their video diaries.

i found it sad an frightening to see that iam living this with no intention at all in realy eventually getting better all i want is to be happy but keep the e-d and to hear so many girls say that that's is what they wanted to and then seeing their names written on a futur post of the girl that died scared me cause i don'T really want to dye i want to convince myself that living with an e-d is possible but seeing their pain hit me hard as if i have a choice to make . to live or to dye not to eat or not .
yours trully

Yeah, that seems similar to when a celebrity addicted to drugs dies from a drug overdose, and the media has a field day because the celebrity seemed so invulnerable.

i have been posting video's on there as a video diary, for just over a year.

there are a lot of pro-ana/mia things on it, and it disgusts me.

i have found a few people subscribed to my video's that have a lot of 'thinspiration' crap, and i let them know that i will not be associated to that....so i unsubscribe them from watching me.

i make my video's more for an awareness thing..for those who struggle with similar things, and to educate those who do not understand.

it has helped a lot in some ways...i finally have a voice..

and of course, i have gotten my share of hate/rude comments, but i have over 1000 people who watch me..

it's kind of scary sometimes..but it's a way to get my story out there..and i have actually been told many times, how much of an inspiration i am..and that i help a lot of people.
