I dont have either one of those but I love my " i-books"on the I-Pad. Dont know if you would consider that or if you have an i Pad but it is so nice to read books and magazines on it. You can download books from I-tunes, you can highlight text, book mark things, there are lots of titles to read. I bought my dad a kindle for his birthday and I have to say that I liked the i-books better.

This probably wasnt helpful, sorry :(

I'll be not helpful, too. I love the versatility of using my iPad as an e-reader and with the mini iPads now they are almost comparable in size to the Kobos and Kindles.

Is there a particular reason you are considering the Kindle vs a more versatile machine?

Not really interested in an iPad - I already have a desktop, a laptop (actually 2 of those), an iPod for music, and an iPhone. I just want something more convenient for reading at a reasonable price.

an iPod for music

I know it's off topic, but have you considered uploading all your iTunes music libraries and playlists to Google Play/Music, which you can then access from all (up to 10) of your other devices, including your iPhone with a third party app available on iTunes. That way you don't have to use any storage space on any of the devices.

(sorry no experience with Kindle) though there are plenty of Kindle users on the RVForum.)

I'm still using an older kindle and still like it. But now that I checked out the 2 you're looking at,I think I want a new one. I think I would prefer the one with free 3G. I think that would be convenient.

I like keeping what I read separate from all my other devices.Less distractions that way.

That's kind of the way I feel about it too. And I'm also leaning toward the 3G but wondering if it's really worth the extra $60.

It's not actually a necessity, but it would be convenient. There have been times I wish I would have had that convenience.
