Prozac is the oldest of the SSRIs and in fact the only one approved as safe for teens. It's effective and less sedating than most.

Typical initial (transient) adaptation effects can include butterfly stomach and a sense of detachment (derealization) - these don't usually last more than 2 or 3 days.

Bear in mind that as with all SSRIs the beneficial effects are gradual and cumulative and you may not notice much difference for up to 4 to 6 weeks (although many see benefits before that).

Of all the SSRIs, prozac has the longest half life so it results in very stable blood levels. For the same reason, it is easiest to discontinue because the medication leaves your body very gradually.
