Every time I see the acronym "POS", my brain reads it first as "piece of sh*t".

It is also used frequently as an acronum for "point of sale", though, as in this headline for an article I just saw:

5 Ways POS Software Can Save You Money

I guess POS anything can save you money if you don't buy it.

People really need to rethink and double check acronyms BEFORE they are popularized.

Couple years after moving to Manitoba When I told my French friends back in Quebec (way back when) that I was doing contract work installing for MTS they would all have an immediate "What the ****?" type of reaction.

MTS (now BellMTS) = Manitoba Telecom Services in other words the telephone company.

MTS acronym in French stood for: Maladie Transmise Sexuellement

Translated to English = Sexually Transmitted Disease :D

I also got laughed at for a long time after transitioning from years in a totally French environment to an English one when I would say my NIP (French) instead of PIN :coffee:
