Can someone please explain this to me a little better, even with a link? And does it really work? Can someone do this in their own home?

A good friend of mine was ignored by her mother after being physically abused by her father. To this day, her feelings towards both parents are extremely negative. She thinks her mother should have done more to stand up for her. Although she is not abusive or depressed, she has been hardened to show no emotion. She hates being touched by anyone. I believe that she just gave up showing any real feeling after being ignored for so long.

Thanks!

Do you believe it could work? She has had an MRI which showed that a certain part of her brain that controlled emotion was much smaller and less developed than normal. However, her level of understanding is pretty high. I think she has the ability to put herself in someone else's shoes, but might not feel the pain as clearly as others.

After reading some websites, I'm starting to think I have a bit too much compassion. If I see someone at the store or on tv, I automatically start to imagine what their life is like. Maybe they're going through a divorce. Maybe someone close to them is in the hospital. Then I realize that they've probably experienced the same problems that I have. They've all felt happiness, sadness, rejection or otherwise. That makes that stranger less and less of an unknown.
