FINANCIAL SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE FOR ADULTS WITH ADHD

Lilly Seeks Entries for Focus on Your Possibilities
Adult ADHD Scholarship Program
$300,000 Offered to 60 Scholarship Winners over Past Three Years

Indianapolis – June 14, 2007 – Applications are being accepted for the ADHD Focus on Your Possibilities Scholarships, the first and only scholarship program specifically for adults living with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), announced Eli Lilly and Company today. This year a total of 20 scholarships worth up to $5,000 each will be awarded by an independent panel of ADHD experts for the fall 2007 semester – allowing recipients to continue their education in traditional colleges, graduate schools, technical institutes or General Educational Development (GED®) courses.

Previous award recipients have used their scholarships to pursue a wide array of academic degrees encompassing fine arts, music, nursing and law. “My quest to attain the seemingly unattainable goal of earning a master’s degree has changed my life. Higher education has given me the hope to fulfill my dream of helping others,” said Grace A. Moylan, of Hamilton, N.J., a 2006 scholarship recipient, who recently attained her master’s degree in professional and technical communications.

Experts estimate that 60 percent of children with ADHD carry their symptoms into adulthood and that more than 8 million adults in the United States have ADHD, the vast majority of whom are undiagnosed1,2,3. ADHD can impact every aspect of an adult’s life, leading to difficulties in school and with relationships and employment. In fact, an adult living with ADHD is nearly twice as likely to be fired from a job3, twice as likely to be divorced or separated4 and six times more likely to have a suspended driver’s license3.

To apply for the Focus on Your Possibilities Scholarship, individuals must be:

  • 25 years or older;
  • Diagnosed with ADHD by a physician and currently undergoing treatment;
  • Attending or planning to attend an accredited public or private undergraduate or graduate school in the United States or would like to obtain their GED;
  • Enrolled or planning to enroll in a college, institute, university, vocational/technical school or GED program on a full-time basis;
  • Able to provide examples of significant drive and passion that will enable them to capitalize on their talents through education.
The award recipients will have a demonstrated record of overcoming challenges, and the scholarship program will reward them in their work toward academic success.

Applications for the fall 2007 semester must be postmarked by Tuesday, July 31, 2007. Award recipients will receive notification by mail in August 2007. The winners’ recommending physicians also will be notified at this time. For application information, call 1-800-LILLYRX (1-800-545-5979) or visit www.adhd.com.
