I have a client who has been taking Cipralex (escitalopram) 20 mg plus Wellbutrin 300 mg as well as amitriptyline (Elavil) 10 mg for migraine. Her other medications include naproxen (Naprosyn) (for arthritis) and Ativan (lorazepam) prn for anxiety.

She has very recently started taking 5HTP and is wondering about potential risks or interactions.

I'm wondering whether Steve or anyone else might have any thoughts or suggestions.

Entering each of the medications into the Medscape Interaction Checker yielded these results

The reference to SSRI refers to the potential with 5HTP; Cipralex is entered as Lexapro because Medscape is a U.S. database.

Does she tolerate and find relief from migraine with the tricyclic (amatriptylene)? One of the triptans combined with the naproxen she is already taking might be more effective as a replacement if necessary. This combination has been used successfully treating the vasodilation (triptan) and inflammation (naproxen) of a migraine.
