Re: Can't log in?

I just joined, I see that the email verification is working fine, I got my email alright, but I think Dr. Dave activated my account before I even had a chance to click the link!

Some of us get special treatment!

Everybody around here gets special treatment, AVC! That's because we're all special! :hello:

Re: Can't log in?

That's true. :)

Welcome. But in fact this forum requires both email verification AND Admin activation... extra precautions to keep our members safe from harassment.

The main problem today are professional forum spammers, I have had to ban many IP proxies out of China, Korea and other IP's that spammers use, I have had to even ban email services that they use too to keep them from registering!

Re: Can't log in?

We've had that issue too, with an increasing list of banned IPs and email addresses. But what I meant was that a forum like this, with vulnerable members, requires some special monitoring.

Re: Can't log in?

I understand, today managing forums is a full time job to say the least, I agree with your policy on new members joining to cut down on the blatant spamming that would upset many here!

Re: Can't log in?

I have no problem logging in, but after I finish writing a long post, I'm logged out and all that I've typed is lost.

This is frustating especially when I forget to highlight my post and copy it.

Solitary Man,

When you are logging in when you first come to the forum are you clicking on the "Remember Me" option? If you do not put a check mark in that box then you will be automatically logged out after a specific amount of time.

Re: Can't log in?

Yes, even clicking on Remember me doesn't work. I had several long posts that I wrote a few minutes ago lost because of this problem.

Another option is to try logging out completely, deleting your cookies, clearing your cache and then try logging back in and clicking Remember me again. Most times that will work and if not, you may have to send a quick PM to David to see if he can figure out what might be happening.

Re: Can't log in?

Yes. Please try Nancy's solution and let me know what happens.

Also, what browser are you using? What operating system? and are you on dialup? If yes, are you using an accelerator?

Re: Can't log in?

I have had this happen too, and I do all the things Nancy suggested, it doesnt happen all the time and isnt a problem, its just frustrating when it does happen loosing the post, i alway try and remember to copy it, are you with AOL by any chance, I often wonder if it is them:)

Re: Can't log in?

I'm running XP SP2 with IE 7 on high speed cable.

I've done all the things suggested and I still have to copy and paste my postings so I don't lose them when I press the "post reply" button.

Re: Can't log in?

Cookies are enabled? Have you tried refreshing or releasing -> renewing your internet connection?

Does this happen EVERY time? or just some times?

Re: Can't log in?

Happens everytime. Cookies are enabled.

Funny thing is, when I use quick reply I have more success posting than using the "post reply" button below the last post.

Re: Can't log in?

Was this happening before you upgraded to IE7? There are reports of problems caused by corrupt internet caches. Try deleting the cache using Crap Cleaner (freeware), including the index.dat file. IE will recreate the cache when you restart.

Also consider reducing the size of your IE cache to a maximum of 50 Mb. Windows sets this way too high for today's hard drives.

Re: Can't log in?

i have to ask, i was told never to delete the index dat file, as it might affect other things, is it ok to get rid of it, I tryed deleting it once and it wouldnt let me do so.
