Psychologists Are Getting AuthorizeD to Prescribe Medications

Just found out from an article in an online journal that psychologists in 3 US states are authorized to prescribe psychotropics. What a great way to combine best of two worlds!

The states are Illinois, New Mexico and Louisiana. The US army has also allowed prescription privileges for psychologists. They are required to complete additional pharmacology classes in order to get the authorization, so not all of them are automatically authorized. Will share the article as well.

Forgetmenot, I live in Ontario and this province has terrible access to mental health services. Low number psychiatrists, No psychiatry specialized NPs and no prescribing psychologists. The USA has made many advances in healthcare, though they are not due to Obama care, but to changes that were initiated before their current president. It seems to me they are light years ahead now.
