Someone I know is physically challenged and has some mood disorders and wants to move out of an emotionally abusive and controlling setting.
She is thinking of going back to school in Ohio or Northern Indiana... I found some links, but does anyone know any general advice to give about someone who is either going to school or even just trying to get non-assisted living if they have a disability and have some mental health issues? I cannot seem to find any specific advice about what to do if someone is trying to be independent and lives with abuse (a parent who is emotionally abusive)...
I suggested to her that she could either call the schools and see what they have to offer, or check in the city she were planning to stay in and find out from the Housing Authority or City about different housing options. There are some houses/apartments who will only charge people what you can afford (at least where I'm at up here in Canada)... There's also possibilities to see if she could check with the area's Mental Health Associations, Grant or Bursary programs and so on...
Does anyone else know what I could possibly say or where I could refer her to?
Here's what I have found so far:
