First I want to say that I understand that some people still do not believe in subliminal messages. I want to make it clear that I am not looking for answers from them.

I am hoping to get an answer to something I have been looking at for some time.

Can someone who is familiar with research on subliminal messages tell me how reading a book plays into this. If I am reading a book is the rest of the page and the next page going to effect me in any way? And if so, how?

I just want to be able to read without worrying about this.

Thank You so Much

You are talking about two separate things.

1. The evidence from research on subliminal messages, e.g., in ads in theaters, has never been very supportive of any significant effects on behavior. Bottom line: Nice idea, but in reality if it doesn't make it into consciousness or awareness it has little or no effect on behavior.

2. The evidence on prescient perception (i.e., extrasensory perception) is even weaker. As much as I would love to believe in ESP, there really is no good evidence at all after 50 years of trying to support it.

So go ahead... relax and read your favorite books. The page you are reading may evoke certain thoughts and emotions but pages you haven't yet read are not yet affecting you. :)
