The past couple weeks, when I get anxiety that comes on quickly or panic attacks I am starting to get pains in my stomach and all the Pepto Bismal symptoms.

I am going to tell my doctor when I see her, but I have never had this happen before.

A few months ago, I started getting pains in my chest too with my anxiety and panic attacks. My doctor checked me out and I am fine otherwise.

Has anyone else had upset and stomach pains with anxiety and panic attacks too?

I find that when I am anxious my stomach gets easily upset. My entire digestive track can be affected.

My upper digestive track is more affected compared to my lower though. I get pains just below the middle of my rib cage. In my experience, prolonged or chronic anxiety has caused a fair bit of damage to my physical body. Everything from chronically tensed muscles to headaches to reoccurring stomach problems.

I also have indirect problems with my health caused by anxiety. For example, I had my gallbladder removed due to a single stone perforating my gallbladder. The stone could have been a result of stress combined with me choosing high-fat foods when anxious because I found them comforting.

I've found anxiety to be surprisingly powerful. It can wreak havoc on my body, mind and emotions. It's hard to believe that it can affect me so dramatically sometimes. There is even some research that suggests it may be linked to my fibromyalgia.

Never-the-less, if you are feeling constant stomach pains, it's definitely a good idea to talk to your doctor again.

Thank you everyone who responded.

I will definately speak to my doctor about it. They always want to be informed of any new symptoms. I was just curious right now as I never had the upset stomach until recently.

Keep us posted NicNak. I know it can feel a bit scary (or at least that's how I felt) when experiencing unfamiliar symptoms.

Yeah, I was a bit concerned with the stomach problems. It's pretty weird how all of a sudden the symptoms can change.

When I was getting chest pains, I called TeleHealth Ontario cause I was afraid I was having a heart attack. The nurse called me back quick and I discribed in detail my symptoms and told her I have chronic panic attacks, but never had the chest pains.

She was very nice and understanding. Told me to see my doctor and tell them about the symptom change. I took my Clonasipam after talking to her, as I didn't want to take any medication if I was infact having a heart attack.

Doctor checked me out good and I was fine. :D

I will mention this to them as well.

Thanks again :flowers:

It's always better to be safe than sorry -especially when it comes to health -and even more when it comes to pains in the chest.

There have been times when I wondered if my symptom complaints were being somewhat overlooked because of my anxiety. And I think this does happen. I saw my GP a number of times about a particular set of symptoms and he just thought it was related to my depression. But I later found out I had a potassium deficiency when I ended up in Emergency from the symptoms.

I think it's definitely good to keep exploring potential causes for symptoms if our instincts (or bodies!!) are telling us something isn't right. Like for me...anxiety causes increased heart rate and stomach ache. Well, that's ok if it's only once and a while, but I was experiencing chronic anxiety for a while and that ended up doing some physical damage to my body. Just because the cause originated as a "mental" thing doesn't mean it didn't manifest into a "physical" thing. I don't know if that made any sense, lol.

Basically I'm saying that even IF the pain is "just from anxiety" it is still a pain, can still be scary and still deserves to be properly explored :)

thanks Healthbound and Sister-Ray. :D

My GP checks my blood yearly for thyroid problems, diabedies etc and any time my symptoms change, she runs more blood work. She always wants to make sure it is infact the depression, anxiety etc causing the symptoms.

It's too bad she can't be cloned so that some folks who do not have an understanding and diligent GP could have one.

Today I still have an uneasy stomach, but not as bad as last night. Thankfully :D

Thanks everyone for their kindness :flower: :flowers: :flowers: :flowers: :flowers:

After an increase in the dosage of my medication, I felt extremely nauseous, more so than I usually do when anxious. That soon developed into upset stomach, as well as abdominal pain. I got a bit worried about that, but the doctor assured me it is all linked to the anxiety and thus perfectly normal.

Thanks Cinderella :flowers:

I was getting worried about it. It is a new symptom for me

It's definitely worth talking to your doctor, just in case, but it could very likely just be the anxiety and/or medication. I had never had that symptom before, but thankfully it's nothing to worry about.

There has not been any change in my meds in quite a while.

I did start getting pains in my chest with anxiety (doc checked me out good to make sure my heart and lungs were fine)

I will mention this, for sure. My stomach was so upset that day.

I was anxious tonight, but didn't have as bad of an upset stomach with it.

Thanks again Cinderella.

Well I've had much the same complaints. About 8 years ago I began to developed really achy tummy's, and it took until 5 years ago approx for the med system to realize that I had a gallstone that needed to have my gallbladder removed. I also get bad heart burn. This causes spasms of the oesophagus. If you have bad heart burn and also get these horrible aches in your lower chest (radiate around the back, up the chest and feel like your diagraph is ripping in two) then this may be the same thing. I"ve gone to the hopsital in ambulance because of this pain and thrown up from the pain too...its crappy, but nothing we can do about it. Ulcers are also something I suffer from, especially when badly stressed and these lead to further irritation and more spasms.
You might want to get an antacid type treatment, I take Pariet twice a day to try and keep things manageable.
