The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is warning the public not to consume King James brand Blue Stilton Cheese because it could be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

The affected product was sold in 2 kg. bulk round packages bearing lot/batch numbers between 019 and 034 inclusive. The cheese may also have been sold at retail or deli counters between April 14 and May 19, 2011.

There have been no reported illnesses associated with the product, which the importer, Tree of Life Canada of Surrey, B.C., is recalling from the marketplace.

The product has been distributed in B.C., Ontario, Quebec, Newfoundland, and possibly other provinces.

Food contaminated with Listeria Monocytogenes may not look or smell spoiled, but, the bacteria can cause listeriosis. The symptoms of listeriosis include high fever, severe headache, neck stiffness and nausea.

Pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems are particularly at risk.
