Are you sensitive to light, feel incapacitated and have nausea during your attacks?

Lights do affect me in general so I try natural light as much as possible. They do incapacitate me as it feels like the side of my head (or in the last time) or my eye was ready to pop out. Sounds gross I know, but it's the way it feels.

I feel feverish but usually don't have one. With age has come nausea but just the feeling usually (thank goodness). I do get that sense of doom. I am very sensitive to smells during a migraine and certain types of noise.

I have had them all my life, so I can usually tell when one is coming on and take something right away so it doesn't get any worse. I am lucky because the frequency has lessened but the headaches themselves are more severe. Probably what adds to the axiety I have.

Thanks Steve for inquiring further. First chance I have had to really explain what one is like. :)

Most of my migraines involve my eye..one or the other; feels like a nail in my eye.

I too am sensitive to light, smell and sound, but in the last ten to fifteen years almost no nausea, except for those one or two major drug resistant episodes.

Most of us who experience migraine can tell when one is coming, either with a phenomenon called an aura (I never had one) or just from a certain group of sensations, I can tell one is getting started.

This premonition is probably our best tool toward taking steps to initiate relief.

If you are finding the intensity of the discomfort is increasing, talk to your doctor about prescribing a triptan class of medications. They are really effective and actually abort the migraine attack from progressing...in about 45 to 90 minutes after taking the medication.

The only caution is if you happen to be taking an SSRI or SNRI or other serotonin based medication, because of a potential serious side effect.

Personally, I could not have gotten through the last fifteen years without the triptans. FYI I happened to be taking an SSRI and SNRI (different times) during part of this time, with no adverse effects, so the warning is not an absolute contraindication. (Done with my doctor's supervision.)

Yes these headaches tear you apart when they come assisting sometimes with irritation and nausea also...then when they are done or after the medication starts working we feel relieved and the world seems to be a much better place.
