New directory of medical and mental health support groups, just starting to populate the categories.

At present, the directory is organized geographically by country/region, state/province, city/town. As we populate the directory, we will include @categories (virtual categories) to pull support groups by topic regardless of location.

No reciprocal required. No fee for standard submission.

This is a joint project by TSOW and I (it was actually all TSOW's idea but since it was a great idea I grabbed it and ran ). It has the potential to be a valuable international resource for mental health individuals in assisting them to find appropriate support groups, most of which have limited funding and zero advertising budgets.

Please submit any support sites you know about at http://support.psychlinks.ca/submit.php. Please note that the support group does not need to have a web site in order to be listed as long as contact information is supplied.

Thanks for your help in making the Support Directory a reality David. It should be fun to populate the entries. Forum members can most certainly become involved and help populate the Directory.

I found that as I do research on the internet to respond to postings, that I frequently come across notifications of support groups. Another source of support group information is Google News. I regularly monitor Google News for items containing the word Tourette for the TSFC Forum and for the Psychlinks Tourette Section. That's where I see many support listings from all over because local groups will often have articles in their local newspaper.

I mention this because perhaps other Psychlinks Froum members may be doing the same thing, and this could be a source of adding to the directory database.

It's an easy matter to copy/paste the info.

For people participating in other support forums, you may wish to use some or all of the text below, modified for use in any venue.

You will notice the BBcode has been de-activated to enable copy/pasting. To enable BBcode, replace my curly brackets { } with square brackets [ ] if your forum supports BBcode.

One addendum: Please note that this directory is for support groups rather than treatment programs. Organizations that offer both may be listed but treatment clinics and treatment programs should be submitted to my other directory at http://directory.psychlinks.ca (also free for standard listings).

What a wonderful idea!

I know of support groups but they don't have websites. Can you add a paragraph for description and contact info? For example, EYORS (Early Years of Recovery Support) for family members with a loved one within the first 5yrs of living with psychosis.

I'm just wondering how much info you can add?

if you're submitting info about a support group without a website or webpage, you can include a phone number with area code in the Description box along with a very brief description of what they do can be written.

Where you are asked to input the URL if your group has no website, enter: http://support.psychlinks.ca

Also add contact info for the group - telephone number or email address in the description box.

I'm not sure what reciprocal link requires when submitting support groups to the directory.

A "reciprocal link" means that if you are submitting a web site to the directory and wish to link back to http://support.psychlinks.ca we appreciate it but do NOT require it.

In other words, our main intent is to create a directory that will be useful for people trying to find support groups or organizations dealing with their conditions or issues or concerns. If other web sites link to the directory, it helps to rank the directory higher in search engine queries, which means it reaches more people that can potentially be helped and also that more people become aware of it and may submit their own suggested sites, thereby improving the directory.

However, again, please note that a reciprocal link is NOT required, ever, and is not a factor in the decision of whether or not to list a support site or support group in the directory.

To be honest, the main reason it's there is because the capability of requiring reciprocal links is built in to the software than runs the directory. maybe one of these days I'll get around to delting that part but at the moment they are working on some updates and new features and for now I don't want to make it difficult to update the software.

There seems to be a problem with the HTML entry for the link to the directory See the attached screenshot. I don't have a lot of experience with HTML but David will be able to tell you how to encode it so it doesn't show and that the link is live.
