No, they tried prozac on me when I was around twenty after I had a very serious and traumatic miscarriage and was cutting, and instead of making me feel better, it accelerated me and brought me to the point I attempted suicide.

Just to clarify: For people with bipolar disorder, use of an SSRI such as Prozac can induce a manic or hypomanic episode. This is not a risk for people with unipolar depression or anxiety. In other words, it's a function of the bipolar disorder, not a side effect or risk of Prozac.

In regards to your struggle with continuing therapy: YES.
You are the "destination", therapy is the "vehicle", and a therapist is the "driver" of the vehicle. It's the driver that succesfully gets the vehicle to the destination.

Some therapists are more in tune with their calling than others. Anyone can be a therapist, but a trusting, intuitive, enlightened, sensitive, human, makes the best therapist. Find out who offers what, what you feel may be for you, what others say about them. Its ok to shop around, just like you would for anything you require.

Therapy can be quite clinical and sterile, yes / no, black / white, or it can be a warming, satisfying venue for finding more personal answers to lifes challenges and changes, and present coping strategies based on you, the induvidual, and your requirements. You have to feel a connection with someone you feel has a genuine, personal commitment, and care, for your pain, suffering, and perspective.

The people I describe do exist. You exist. You need the best attention you can get, for there is only one of you, and your relevance is meaningful.

I just had a look at your picture. That you chose that picture to represent how you are feeling defines the word
"appropriate". It is the cutest, most huggable, most emotional, most defineable, representation that I have seen that is symbolic of " this is me, I'm here, and I have needs". Excellent picture. It is giving me cause for reflection.

Thank you for the unintended affect it has had on me, and I am sure, others.

Re: I don?t think therapy is working...

Hi LittlePieces I too worried about getting an angry reaction from my therapist but i brought this up with him and was assured this would not happen. I think if you brought your fear out in the open with your therapist you would be able to communiate with your therapist better. Fear always gets in the way of progress something i am still learning. Take care and as the others have said progress takes time and sometimes we don't even realize the progress we have made. Mary
